The Philadelphia Eagles (15-3) will be the opponent for the San Francisco 49ers (15-4) on Sunday at 3 p.m. Eastern time in the N.F.C. championship game, which will be broadcast on Fox.
Because of their consistency throughout the regular season, the Eagles are currently favored by 2.5 points when playing at home. However, the modest spread also demonstrates that experts believe this game between two of the league’s top teams will be tough.
Because of clever draft choices and trades by 49ers General Manager John Lynch and Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman, the game serves as a showcase for how the teams created entire rosters in the modern N.F.C.

Jalen Hurts will give tough competition to 49ers

The Eagles, the top seed in the NFC, are tied with Kansas City for the best record in the N.F.L. and have advanced to the top of the league thanks to quarterback Jalen Hurts’ growth. In his second full season as a starter, Hurts—who was chosen in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft—has made significant progress. He has thrown for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns while completing more than 66 percent of his passes. Half of those touchdown passes were caught by receiver A.J. Brown, who Roseman gained in an April trade, who also recorded 1,496 yards and 11 scores.
Hurts was chosen for the Pro Bowl despite missing two games due to a shoulder ailment. He also ran for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns. Coach Nick Sirianni’s run-pass option offense, which gives the quarterback the option to hand the ball off or throw to a receiver depending on how the defense reacts, has been successful thanks to Hurts’s rushing abilities and arm.

Eagles will face Brock Purdy

The 49ers offense, whom the Eagles will be facing, is being led by Brock Purdy, a rookie quarterback who started the year at the bottom of the depth chart. But following Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo’s injuries in the middle of the season, he was deployed.
Including the seven games Purdy has started since Garoppolo’s foot injury against the Miami Dolphins on December 4, the 49ers have won 12 straight games. Purdy, the final selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, has performed admirably under Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, who also serves as the play-caller for the offense. In nine games, Purdy has thrown just four interceptions while accumulating 1,374 yards and 13 touchdowns. But the attacking tools at his disposal also contribute to his success.

How each team have potential to win

Whoever has a better offensive line will probably win the game. According to Next Gen Stats, of the four quarterbacks still in the playoffs, Purdy has the lowest air yards per passing attempt (6.7), indicating that he typically throws to receivers on short routes. To stop Reddick and the Eagles’ pass rush, Purdy must continue to make quick throws.
Philadelphia’s balanced offense has been successful this season, but San Francisco’s defense allowed the second-fewest rushing yards per game (77.7). Eliminating the Eagles’ rushing attack might force them to rely more on the throw, which would give Bosa more opportunity to get tackled. Although Shanahan stated that he anticipates McCaffrey (calf), Samuel (ankle), and running back Elijah Mitchell (groin) to play, the 49ers are the more injured team.
