Christopher Nolan’s epic historical drama dominated the film categories, securing major victories, while the Roy family, along with “The Bear” and “Beef,” made significant impacts on the tv front.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards were like a big preview for the Oscars, showing which movies and actors are doing really well.

They gave out awards on Sunday during a live show on CBS and also streamed it on Paramount+. The event happened at the fancy Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, and comedian Jo Koy hosted the whole thing. Christopher Nolan’s movie “Oppenheimer” was the star of the night, winning five awards, including Best Picture – Drama and Best Actor for Cillian Murphy.

Lily Gladstone from “Killers of the Flower Moon” won Best Actress, making her a strong contender for the Oscars. Other actors like Emma Stone, Paul Giamatti, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph also did great, giving important speeches on TV. This is all happening just before the Oscars nominations are announced on January 23rd, so it’s a big deal for these actors and movies.

On the TV side, the last season of HBO’s Succession, which always gets a lot of awards, was the big winner for dramatic shows at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. It scooped up several acting awards for Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, and Kieran Culkin, in addition to winning Best Television Series. Over on FX, The Bear also got a lot of love in the comedy category, with Jeremy Allen White winning for lead actor and Ayo Edebiri for supporting actress.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards show happened after a year of big changes for the awards group. They added two new categories, one for successful movies and another for TV stand-up specials. At the same time, they said goodbye to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that used to run the Globes, because of some problems. Dick Clark Productions took over the awards.
