Due to the increased risk of wildfires, a statewide burn ban has been issued in Louisiana. The ban prohibits all agricultural burning, including prescribed burns, until further notice. The ban also prohibits all private burning, with no exceptions.

The burn ban is in effect as of August 25, 2023, at 12 p.m. and will remain in effect until rescinded. Noncompliance with the burn ban may lead to potential legal ramifications, both in the realm of criminal charges and civil penalties.

The burn ban was issued by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) in collaboration with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal. The decision to issue the ban was made in response to the dry and hot conditions that are currently prevailing in the state. These conditions create an ideal environment for wildfires to start and spread quickly.

The burn ban is being enforced by the LDAF’s Office of Forestry. Crews from the Office of Forestry are working around the clock to respond to any wildfires that may occur.

The LDAF is asking all Louisiana residents to help prevent wildfires by being careful with campfires and other outdoor fires. They are also asking residents to not dispose of cigarettes or other smoking materials in the open.

If you see a wildfire, please report it to the fire department immediately.

The LDAF is committed to keeping Louisiana safe from wildfires. By working together, we can prevent these destructive fires from happening.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind during the burn ban:

  • Be aware of the fire danger in your area.
  • Check with your local fire department to see if there are any restrictions on outdoor burning.
  • Never leave a campfire unattended.
  • Make sure your campfire is completely extinguished before leaving it.
  • Be careful with fireworks.
  • Report any wildfires to the fire department immediately.

By following these simple safety tips, we can all help prevent wildfires.
