With more than 11.9 million Instagram followers, 9.7 million Twitter followers, and 5.2 million Spotify subscribers, NCT Dream is building a name for itself all over the world.

The band recently started its first headlining tour of the United States, including visits in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and more. Before the first performance of the American leg on April 5 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, USA TODAY spoke with NCT Dream.

From its members to its achievements, here is all you need to know about the K-pop group NCT Dream.

Let’s begin with your first common question:

Who is NCT Dream?

NCT Dream is a K-pop boy band with seven members that is part of SM Entertainment. Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung make up NCT Dream, which made its debut in 2016 with the song “Chewing Gum.” On the Billboard world digital song sales chart, the track peaked at No. 2.

The group is the third sub-group of NCT, which is made up of one sub-unit called NCT DoJaeJung, NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV.

The group’s original plan was to serve as the NCT teenage members’ rotational unit. The members would undergo a graduation-based system, leaving NCT Dream after they aged 20 or achieved South Korea’s legal adulthood age (19 internationally). In 2020, with the group’s publication of “Reload,” this was changed their life completeyl.

Mark, the group’s leader, “graduated” in 2018, but then after the reorganization, he came back for the 2021 release of “Hot Sauce.”  Since then, NCT Dream has remained a fixed unit.

There are total seven members in NCT Dream. The members have been friends since they were trainees.

Mark – Full name Mark Lee,  Born Aug. 2, 1999. Hometown: Toronto, Canada.

 

Renjun – Full name: Huang Renjun, Born March 23, 2000. Hometown: Jilin, China.

 

Jeno – Full name: Lee Je-no, Born April 23, 2000. Hometown: Ilsan, South Korea.

 

Haechan – Full name: Lee Dong-hyuck, Born June 6, 2000. Hometown: Seoul, South Korea.

 

Jaemin – Full name: Na Jae-min, Born Aug. 13, 2000. Hometown: Jeonju, South Korea.

 

Chenle – Full name: Zhong Chenle, Born Nov. 22, 2001. Hometown: Shanghai, China.

 

Jisung – Full name: Park Ji-sung, Born Feb. 5, 2002. Hometown: Seoul, South Korea.

 

NCT Dream stand for or meaning?

The term “neo cultural technology” is abbreviated as NCT. It was created by Lee Soo-man, the founder of SM Entertainment.

the second part of the group’s name, “Dream.” means the group’s dedication to releasing music that focuses on youth, adolescence, and progress..

“We kind of represent, in a way, youth itself,” Mark said. “NCT Dream has always been such a youthful team, and now we’re just showing the world, and our fans, through our music the growth of who we were and how we’re still growing.”

 

NCT Dream first United States tour

NCT Dream started its first headlining tour of the United States on April 5. Two sold-out performances at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in South Korea marked the start of the “The Dream Show 2: In A Dream” tour in September 2022. The group is scheduled to visit 22 cities throughout the world during the tour, with more to explore.

NCT Dream U.S. tour is scheduled as below:

  • Newark, New Jersey – Prudential Center (Wednesday, April 5)
  • Chicago – Allstate Arena (Friday, April 7)
  • Atlanta – State Farm Arena (Sunday, April 9)
  • Houston – Toyota Center (Wednesday, April 12)
  • Dallas – Texas Trust CU Theatre (Friday, April 14)
  • Los Angeles – Honda Center (Tuesday, April 18)
  • Seattle – Climate Pledge Arena (Friday, April 21)

 

Chenle said “I am very excited and very much looking forward to it,” he continue “I am very curious to see what kind of stages we are able to create together with our U.S. fans.”

The performers would like the audience members to leave each performance with a positive mindset.

“I would want them to be able to learn to have a positive mindset in everything that they do; to just always be happy and be able to overcome any circumstances that they’re in, said Renjun.

 

NCT Dream Achievements

NCT Dream has won numerous honors and awards over the years.

The group most recently took home the grand award, known as the daesang, from the Seoul Music Awards in 2023. Also, they won the 2022 Hanteo Music Awards for Best Album, the 2022 Genie Music Awards for Singer of the Year and Album of the Year for “Glitch Mode.”

 

NCT Dream Early Career & Milestone

NCT Dream has released multiple songs, such as five EPs, two reissues, two studio albums, one live album, and two reissues since their debut.

“Glitch Mode,” the group’s second studio album, had more than two million pre-orders on its release day. On the Billboard 200 chart, the album’s lead single peaked at No. 50. With 1.71 million preorders, “Hot Sauce,” the group’s debut studio album, won Best Album at the 31st Seoul Music Awards. The group most recently made “Beatbox” available in English on March 21.

NCT Dream featured in Billboard’s “21 Under 21: Music’s Future Generation” from 2018 to 2020 for three years in a row. Also, the group was the only Asian artist featured on TIME Magazine’s list of the “25 Most Influential Teenagers of 2018.”

Haechan says “NCT Dream is the future,”.

“This is just the beginning,” Mark said in a statement.
